My Friend Heath and I have been on a two day hiking trip on Phang Nga mainland (near Phang Nga Town) with Paddle Asia, beginning of February. After being shuttled to Phang Nga Town, where we picked up our lunch from a local Thai restaurant, we continued about 20 minutes outside Town, into the Jungle. (if you would ask me to take you there, I would have to pass! ;-) I think only Dave and his Thai guides know those trails, as we did not see any other people for the rest of the day! We walked into a small creek, which we followed for about 10/11 km, walking in the creek and on the trails beside it. The vegetation all the way is beautiful, wild and mind blowing. Rock formations, caves and a Buddhist Temple in the middle of nowhere completed the adventurous hike. After getting back to our truck early afternoon we drove into Phang Nga Town and checked into our Guest house. Very reasonable priced, clean rooms with air con and wifi. At dusk Dave took us for a stroll around Town and a delicious dinner at a local restaurant with a great variety of Thai and western meals. Phang Nga Town is a very relaxed place with friendly and welcoming locals. A surprising contrast to people in the tourist centres of Phuket. The next morning we where taken to another creek, a bit bigger and more technical than the day before, but scenically just as amazing! We walked most of it in the creek and climbed a couple of little waterfalls for the fun (that we could also have bypassed on trails in the jungle, Dave gave us both options ;-) At the end of the hike we went for a swim in a beautiful natural pool under one of the waterfalls. Best way to end the adventure before driving back to Phuket. Another amazing experience away from tourists in the middle of mother nature. Very well organised and guided by Dave and the Paddle Asia team!
