This was an incredible experience for my family. May takes you shopping through a Thai market, explaining how Thai ingredients like coconut milk and rice are grown and produced. Then, gather the remainder of what you need for your chosen menu from an on-site organic garden. After a treat in her lovely garden teaching/cooking studio, begin cooking. May is knowledgeable, genuine, and fun. My kids (9&11) were able to follow her instructions and fell in love with she and her cat to boot. After a full day of scrumptious Thai food, we were presented, each with a cookbook, personalized with photos of us cooking throughout the day. I left with a handle on Thai food and ingredients, a satisfied appetite, and a warm heart.

What a great day we had! From the convenience of being picked up, to the tour of the market with May's niece, to the friendliness of everyone at May's home, to the delicious food we made throughout the day. You can expect to learn how some of the packaged goods you buy at your local Asian market are made, helping you gain a greater appreciation and understanding of the foods themselves. Everything tasted so good and fresh. Much of it you will pick yourself from May's garden. Overall, I couldn't recommend it more. Such a great way to spend a day in Chiang Mai.
You HAVE to do this if you're in Chiang Mai. One of the best days of our trip (possibly my life). May is a Thai culinary genius and you will be surprised at how good the food you are able to cook yourself is (with May's instruction, of course). We also learned so much about Thai food and northern Thailand culture which was one of my favourite parts. Her house where you cook everything is beautiful and has this amazing organic garden where you will get put to work picking some herbs for the day. While cooking at the outdoor woks you can look over these beautiful fields. Would 11/10 sign up again.
We visited the Thai Secret Cooking School in early March, and had an absolutely fantastic day with May on her lovely property in Chiang Mai. Before we even arrived, we were picked up at our hotel by May's niece, and she brought us to a local market for a tour and to pick up some ingredients for the day. It was so fun to learn about all of the new-to-us ingredients we found at the market, and Tang was super sweet and fun to chat with. We were fortunate to have a private class for our small group of 3, which was an amazing experience! May took us out into her garden, where she told us all about her different crops, and we were able to pick lots of the ingredients that we cooked with throughout the day. We each got to pick the menu items we made, and chose a different dish for each course so we got to try several different things. May was knowledgeable and friendly, and made us feel so welcome. She gave us great cooking tips, along with lots of information and education about the food we were cooking and Thai culture and cuisine in general. And the food was delicious! It was one of our most memorable experiences in Chiang Mai, and I would highly recommend her classes to anyone.
This was a one of a kind experience. Our teacher, Mai, was so enthusiastic and excellent at teaching. Her home was inviting and the dishes we made were simple but delicious. She made sure everyone understand the how and the why to each method. It was also great seeing the local market and picking fresh ingredients from her family's garden. Would definitely recommend to anyone traveling to Chiang Mai.
