As far as piers go, this is a good one, food and drink options, and all the different flagged boats.

Good pier to get around places by boat. Some very good restaurants nearby (In Love, Steve cafe and Cuisine, Ka Loang). The market is just at the pier too. The only problem is knowing when to get on the right boat, that might not be intuitive for unfamiliar users of transport boat.
You can take an express boat to go to many attractive places where tourists should visit such as Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Arun Temple, Khaosan Road or central pier is linked to BTS Sky Train.
Feed the Royal fish here. The fish are hungry all the time and will bring you good luck. In particular popular with the locals, but tourist can join also.
I'm a fan of this water taxi stop. There is always some kind of smaller market type of stalls going on here. You'll always find cheap bread sellers to feed the enormous amount of fish near the dock while you wait for the right water taxi to arrive. Even during rush hour I don't find this to be such a busy stop and it's a quick walk to the Thewet area of guesthouses on a nice neighborhood street off of Th. Samsen.
