SCAM ALERT!!! SCAM! SCAM! SCAM! We were approached by someone near the mall area. He said he was a security official and that there was a last minute sale going on for this jewelry store and that it was government certified. There was even security guards at the doors. All lies! This is a very common scam in Bangkok!! Fortunately, we didn’t buy anything because I looked at reviews first and saw that this was a scam.

FIVE-A-DAY

Was walking along a bridge under the train line in Pratunam area and was approached by a stuff in uniform (those controlling traffic?) with a badge who told us there was a big sale (9.9 sale?) on local Thai products and say tourists should visit, wrote details on a piece of paper and got us to walk there and assured us that the shop was just opposite the destination which we had originally intended to go. Apparently a syndicate was at work, for after walking 100m another woman approached us and tried to help us as she saw us trying to figure out the instructions. As if like magic, a tuk tuk appeared but drove us to some faraway place not near to our destination which is this Jewelry company and dumped us there. We walked around since we were stranded there, all prices of the items were marked up many more times that you can’t be sure even with the discount given you aren’t paying a few hundred times more than what you should elsewhere. At the end of it all, we were so far from our destination, it was such a big hassle to try find our way back if not for another tuk tuk driver who came along and told us that they were given petrol vouchers for bringing customers over. In return we did the driver a favor and visited another such store which is just across the mall that we had intended to visit earlier so he can get petrol vouchers with him bringing us to our destination for 40Baht. Total Scam! Can you imagine how much more they will charge you for the jewelry to pay that many people to even bring anyone to the store?!

Scam alert. We were approached by a guy outside Chinatown goldsmith shop. He claimed that he is a policeman working for the tourism board and doing a survey. Said that a shopping centre selling gems is giving 30% discount to celebrate the King’s birthday. He asked a nearby Tuk Tuk to bring us there for 20 baht. The shopping centre turned out to be a Jewelry shop. And the Jewelry are very over priced. We left the shop to go back to Chinatown and saw that the Tuk Tuk driver and the so called policeman were chatting with each other. Clearly in cahoot! Really unbelievable!
