A must for history buffs. I never personally understood what actually happened.. but this museum represented all points of history from this time with dignity and respect for the suffering and will to survive.. perhaps also the worst and best of humanity. Entrance fee is a 150THB including a free tea or coffee in the coffee shop upstairs. The Coffee shop offers a quiet view over the cemetery.

This is by far one of the best museums on WW 2 in Kanchanaburi regarding the construction of the death railway. It tells you the story from the beginning of why the Japanese Imperial Army wanted to build this railway in their effort to fight against the Allied forces, how it was done and what happened along the way before they lost the war after the Atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The content is well done, well laid out, well maintained and well organized. After the museum, you can also visit the War Memorial cemetery nearby. Please spare at least 1 hour for this museum.

Nov 2020. Entrance 150 baht includes a free coffee at the coffee shop overlooking the large war cemetery opposite. Museum is modern, air conditioned and well laid out. It tells the story of the Japanese invasion, through building the railroad to their ultimate defeat. There is even real footage of the guided bombs that took out the bridge. 100 baht hamburgers at cafe. Recommended. Allow 1 hour.

Reasonably well executed but mostly just pictures with long text explanations. a better use of your time would be to watch the history channel documentary on the Thai Burma railroad.

The tickets for foreigners is 150 Baht and 100 Baht for Thais. It's an emotional moment to be around there for about 30 minutes - 1 hour. I would suggest you watch a movie called ”The Railway Man” before you visit this museum and you will have more pictures when you see the photos and the display. The staff allowed you to take only pictures, not recording the videos. However, you would feel sad and get emotional while taking a picture, and you may have to stop and keep silent. I could not take more pictures, only these pictures that I uploaded for Google Map. Upstairs has a coffee shop that you can use a 60% discount for coffee from your entrance tickets. For espresso, cappuccino, or latte will be only 40 baht, but if you only need brew coffee, it is free of charge.
