King Mengrai Monument is a highly revered shrine for the great king of the Lanna Kingdom. Every day there are a great many offerings made at this shrine. So many that they have a full time crew removing all offerings after a certain period of time to make room for the next offerings. On holidays this area can become quite busy. For photography I suggest returning several time during the day to appreciate the level of activity and not to be in too much of a hurry.

Nice monument to have a look at in the centre of town. The meeting point for the free city tour is just behind it and needs a minimum of 6 people to go ahead. The tour was great and brings you to the major free spots in the city. 10-15 min stops at each one. The tour isn't all in English but it didn't bother us.

The loyalty of Thai people is unquestionable. This monumental figure will tell you how much they loves their King. Located in the central part of the City, you won't miss it especially night fall with brightly lighting around this area.

kings monument is the most important square in the heart of ChiangvRai city. the kings statue is worshipped by the thai people like god. the square is well maintained and the junction is always busy. the spot could have been ideal to watch the sun rise but the view towards east is spoilt by two giant bill boards. the topiaries at the monument are beautifully designed. the garden is well maintained. you can shop for souvenirs here. also there are seven eleven shops on the both sides. in the evening you can enjoy street food around the monument.

I walked past this place on my way to the OK craft beer place. It's a nice place. Worth the visit. As other people have said, early morning or just as the sun is setting is a good time to be here. Just be careful of the traffic here, it's quite a busy junction
