Payong Chatwiroon
แหล่งโบราณคดีโคกพนมดี ( Khok Phanom Di Archaeological Site ) is located in Ban Phanom Di, Tambon Tha Kham, Amphoe Phanat Nikhom, Chang Wat Chonburi, approximately 80 kilometers from Bangkok on the eastern coast region. \ Khok \ is a Thai tongue means mound, referring to ellipse shaped excavation work ( done in A.D. 1978 ( B.E. 2521 ), A.D. 1979 ( B.E. 2522 ), A.D. 1982 ( B.E. 2525 ) and A.D. 1985 ( B.E. 2528 ) ), with totally area around 28 rais ( 1 acre 2.5 rais ), 230 meters of diameter, top of mound is 230 meters. Dating back to the prehistoric era, 8,000 - 5,000 year ago in the first period and 5,000 - 2,000 year ago in the second period, evidences from the remains of mammals, fishes, birds, insects, seeds, corals , ostacodes, pollen, phyoliths, charcoal and crustacea, artifacts in the forms of ceramics, fabric, shell, ivory, stone, turtle carapace and bone, thermoluminescence dating was used to calculate the human remains , pottery’s age. Results from excavation site and the study shew that this community was located on the seashore area, coastal community as it was villagers relied on hunting, gathering and fishing they could earn theirs living on the fertility natural resources both in the forest and in the sea, evidences of transition rice agriculture in the village shown. Some researches and studies refer to the class in the society already exist, human remains buried shew that huge amount of molluse in the form of bangle, necklace and bead, this was based on villagers’ well off instead of power or noble. Because of sea level fluctuated, site of community distanced from the shore, this change affected to the reduce predictability of coastal resources, the rice cultivation as adaptive strategy to be adopted and these might be the cause of habitat 's deteriorating. On the excavation site, the \ Site Museum \ established and the \ Shell Mound \ displayed, the \ Khok Phanom Di Archaeological Site \ nearby a temple, no admission fee.
