Phuket Has Been Good To Us Foundation works to improve the economic opportunities and life chances of young people on Phuket Island. As a not for profit Thai registered charity, our goal is to help Thai youth become capable and confident English speakers so that they may secure well paid employment in Phuket. The Foundation fosters vocational opportunities by funding and implementing high quality, practical English language education and running extra curricula activities in government schools. Currently, our fluent English-speaking teachers operate in two schools in Phuket teaching over 700 children between the ages of 5 and 13. Our goal is to expand in our current schools to teach children until they reach the end of their secondary level education. Ultimately, as resources allow, we intend to expand into additional government schools in Phuket. Of the students whom we currently teach at the Rachaprachanukroh School in Kamala, 150 are orphans, or their families are unable to care for them. These students, aged 6 – 18, live seven days a week at the school. These children’s self esteem and education have suffered due to their family circumstances and they are without many of the advantages and opportunities of their peers. Coconut Club, an afterschool and weekend programme, was established to help them with their English language studies, develop their self-confidence and self worth, and enhance their life skills.
