Located off the road leading to Khao Sok National Park. See Gaarawe’s website for detailed directions and information for volunteers/guests. People staying for short periods of time are required to pay a small amount, longer term volunteers a provided with free room and board in the style of WWOOF. As of June 2019, Gaarawe is an inspiring place and on track to be truly amazing. Lele, the village’s Italian founder, and volunteers have worked incredibly hard over the last four years to build permaculture beds, bungalows, and kitchen/bathroom facilities. The kitchen and shower has running water; there is electricity and wifi. Gaarawe employs a Thai cook that makes simple, delicious food using ingredients from the gardens. While long term volunteers (or even indefinite residents!) are most needed to plant/harvest crops or work on construction projects, I stayed for just four days and learned a lot about organic farming, Thai culture, and Lele’s vision for the future. While the work was hot and the accommodations are rustic, the pace and sense of progress was quite nice. I wish I could have stayed longer!

It's a brilliant permaculture project that made me think about how we live in this world. If you come here be prepared to contribute; but the maestro, Lele, is a very welcoming person. Ideally he would have residents stay here for a year in order to truly learn about this way of living - a way that could make the population self sustaining. It really is the future. Respect what happens here. It's its own kind of magic.
Permaculture experience. Great community
Lele’s farm is located in a village which is 25km from Khao sok national park and 42km from the khao sok lake. So if you want to visit those, it’s far and the transportation and connection is not great. We booked this place through Airbnb. You would sleep in a bungalow so you will hear everything - starting from the jungle sounds and the neighboring bungalow inhabitants snoring. So if you prefer quietness it might be a bit hard. Experience-wise it was nice to stay on a farm and to see how they grow vegetables and fruits. Lele showed us his garden and explained how everything grows which was interesting. But price wise I think it’s too much for what you get- the village is far away from everything which involves extra expenses, the is no hot shower or proper bathroom. For the same money you would get a clean hotel room with air conditioner, hot shower, bathroom elsewhere. You can also rent a scooter for 300b per day and get a meal for 100b. Those are also pretty high prices as for Thai standards. Overall it was nice to stay here, I just think it would be a better value if the price was like twice lowe
We spent one week in Gaarawé Village as volunteers my wife and I. My wife worked in the garden and help in everyday tasks. I had the chance to work on the Garawe website to improve it and also improve my Wordpress skills ! Lele is the founder of the village, is a strong beliver in permaculture ethical principles and applies it everyday in Garawe village. Communication was very good with Lele, the Thai Chef is very good and cooks also Veggy or Vegan meals. You are required to be active, to forget about your phone and give to the village and community, that seems very normal to us ! Thanks a lot Lele and his team to welcome us ! Grazie mille caro !
