Wanglang market is a good place to shope. It has everything and they are priced reasonably. Many Thais shop here. Convenient to get here by boat. Food , drink and clothes are everywhere. The street is narrow so its very crowded especially the weekend.

Another local Thai market on the Thonburi side of the river. It's near Siraj Hospital. This is not a tourist oriented market but is for local folks and the prices reflect it. There are tons of stalls selling all sorts of goodies including fabulous sweets. The clothes are reasonably priced and there are second hand goods sold too. You won't see many foreigners there but you will see white coats and uniforms from the hospital as well as tons of students. Everyone is friendly. Best way to get there is on the Boat to Ta Chang Pier.

In our experience as travellers, this is the best, most authentic market in Bangkok. We learned about Wang Lang from Mark Wiens' guides aimed at Western tourists. Surprsingly, we saw few Western tourists here. The place is crowded-- in a really good way. Lots of options for goods and foods.
