Good short visit. Small Chinese temple.

As a westerner in Thailand I learnt that every town has a Chinese temple built to consecrate the site and is a foundation building before the main town construction begins. This ornate temple in Trat is open from 5am til 8pm. Offerings are made for a multitude of reasons from simply giving thanks to praying for a sick relative or...to bring good fortune. Bring fruit or, if you've been extraordinarily lucky, a pig's head - these are offered up to the temple spirits. They can be prepared in an adjacent kitchen area ... metal trays are available. Retrieve the incense before you start, make a donation and pray at all of the 11 stations, offering 3 or 2 incense sticks where notified (best to take Thai speaker to guide you round). Or, simply take photographs.

Very colourful Chinese shrine, it looks as though it's newly completed. Unfortunately no explanation in English. Visit after 4.30 when the light is soft

Beautiful place, refreshingly different to the usual temples in Thailand
