There are many long tail boat companies like this. I think this is the one we bought tickets from. In the morning, it is very easy to buy a ticket and go to the surrounding islands or beaches. We went to the Railay Beach from Ao Nang beach at around 9 am. Around 2 pm, we intended to go back to the Ao Nang Beach. One of the captains told us to wait for more people to come. As the crowd waiting to get to the Ao Nang Beach became larger, but apparently not enough for the captain, I asked the time of leaving and he said \two more person\. Two more person came and asked for the time of leaving and he again said: \two more person\. It took 45 minutes to fill a boat with ten people. We had to sit under a tree among many bitings ants on the Railay Beach for 45 minutes. These long tail boat companies provide a totally arbitrary service. A day long relaxing on the nice beaches (Railay and Phra Nang) could be gone by the service provided by these companies. Unfortunately, there is no other means of reaching these islands other than buying tour packages. Tour packages are good to visit a few islands or islands that are very far away from the land. Speedboats are better for that purpose. But if you want to visit a single beach and spend the whole day there, there is no other alternative than long tail boats. Be careful if you need to pay national park fees to get into certain islands. Ask about it before getting on a boat. I also heard they may refuse to let you get into a boat from a different place. For example, the ticket price for the Railay Beach and the Phra Nang beach is the same. Both names of the beaches are written on the ticket but the sales person marks one of the beaches. Although tickets cost the same and the company is the same, they may refuse to take you from the nearby beach. Ask about that before taking the ride!
