We participated in the Khao lak full day safari on the 3rd of May. Our tour started with a very sweet girl called 'Gift' and her driver picking us up at the front of the hotel. She told us we would go visit the tsunami memorial first because it was an important part for the history of Khao lak. After that we went to a temple where we participated in a Buddhist ceremony. Next we went tot the bamboo rafting, we first enjoyed a self made coffee before heading onto the river. On the raft we were shown multiple things like a snake, a frog and a place where we could go for a swim. After the bamboo rafting we headed to the elephants, here we received a delicious meal while we could see the elephants passing by. After the meal it was our turn to bathe with the elephants. The elephant keeper took a lot of great pictures of us while we were washing the elephant. The elephant bathing was followed up by a visit to the turtle conservation centre where they raise turtles so they can release them in the sea again and preserve their existence. Last but not least we finished this tour with a relaxing visit to a waterfall. In short, this tour was a full day of great activities. We would like to thank the tour guide 'gift' one more time for this amazing day and we will certainly book more tours with Khao Lak land discovery in the future.
This is a review of the Half Day Elephant Welfare Centre trip we booked through them, which is advertised in their brochure. Firstly, but least importantly, it isn't a half day. After loads of travel and picks ups etc, it is around an hour and a half there. More importantly, it is not a welfare centre. The elephants are ordered around a very small enclosure and respond to command. They look dead behind the eyes and are marched down to the steam to be washed by groups of tourists. They must have to do this multiple times a day. They are bread in captivity and you can make out their small cages in the distance. It's not good to see and I cannot understand how this contributes to their 'welfare'. We were naive, but it has made me realise I should not have contributed towards this industry and will never pay for any kind of animal interaction again.
Staff great, tour was good, overnight huts and toilets not great
We did a temple tour with this company and the guide was energetic and passionate about the cause. We learnt a lot about Hindu and Buddhism culture and got to visit some interesting temples. One was inside a cave!!!
