Either side of the river there are a series of steps taking you down to an underpass of sorts, occupied by a few typically local food places. At the top of these staircases one can find stone representations of an elephant’s head. Interesting to view but not historic in any way - as far as I can tell.

This is one of the old and famous bridges; opening day on 15 Nov 1909 by King Rama V to commemorate the 56th anniversary of his birthday. So, 56 ends the name. Four metal elephant heads is to signify that there were four albino / white elephants during his reign. You can reach this bridge and then travel so easily by car taxi, motorcycle taxi, boat taxi, three-wheel taxi, bus, & BTS.
