Very quick and professional service. Much less crowded than the embassy in Bangkok and therefore quicker and more relaxed. Apparently during main travel season it can be busy as well. The Chiang Mai consulate can't do all the services as the Bangkok embassy, but for everything they can do I definitely recommend to do it here. Check the German embassy website to confirm if your needed service is available (e.g. they help doing new Reisepass / passports, but no Personalausweis / ID Card). Entrance is on the ground floor right beside the tennis court.

It does not have a sense to come here in very advance. Arrived 1.5 hours before 9. With a question related to my student visa. There are two types of queue ticket pink and white. Whites are related to applying for a visa, another one I don’t know. I got a pink one. The problem was, all the assistants were serving people applying for visas and people with an appointments, there was no one who can handle my question. NO ONE!!!! Why?!??! Why should I wait I a queue for 2 hours having arrived 1.5 in advance, just to get a simple 10 mins. assistance?! Don’t recommend it at all. I think it’s just much faster to call/fly to BKK. Last time I spent in the consulate there 15 mins. And got answered all the questions.

The German honorary consulate in Chiang Mai is permanentely closed since Dec.2019, and Germany remained so far unable for smooth handover - October 2020 !!! - to announce another acredited diplomat. Das deutsche Honorarkonsulat in CNX ist seit Dez.2019 permanent geschlossen und das deutsche 'Auswärtige Amt' verbleibt seitdem - Oktober 2020 - unfähig einen neuen deutschen Konsul für Chiang Mai akreditiert zu bekommen und zu nominieren.
