Even if you'll just find some plastic chairs standing next to the road - this is a bus station. The minivans depart an hour before the ferry, but i'd recommend to take a minivan two hours before if you don't like stress. Our minivan arrived just a few minutes before our ferry left. The ride costs just 100 Baht per person and you pay it directly at or in the minivan. You don't need to book it a day before (and when I remember it correctly it's not possible to book it beforehand anyway).
